Urla Chios Artichoke is a perennial plant with purple flowers, which is native to the Urla Peninsula.
The International Urla Artichoke Festival is organised every year to promote the miraculous Urla Chios Artichoke. The festival lasts for three days and hosts thousands of out-of-town and international visitors. The festival is coloured with tasting events, culinary workshops, food talks, exhibitions and music concerts. The Artichoke Festival organised in Urla, which is part of the World Gourmet Cities Network, turns into a cooking and tasting playground for world-renowned chefs.
With each passing day, it is developing and setting an example with its respectful stance towards local food and the producers who produce it. The International Urla Artichoke Festival awaits enthusiasts in the last week of April in Urla, the heart of the mastic artichoke.

When you think of the Aegean, you think of food. You can almost smell fresh herbs, olive oil dishes, vegetables and the most naive products of nature. The Aegean cuisine, which holds the secret of long and healthy life, is so rich that festivals are organised in its name. The herb festival, where fresh herbs and vegetables, which are the crown jewels of the dishes, are tasted and local flavours are presented, attracts visitors from all four corners of our country.
In the festival, which is one of the first herb festivals organised in Izmir, visitors have the chance to taste and discover delicious dishes made from hundreds of herbs grown in the Aegean region. The festival is not only a showcase of hundreds of herbs, but also a festival with workshops, food and beverage tastings, and the sale of local dishes.



13 – 14 August
‘The day when oil falls on olives and honey falls on grapes’ This traditional festival has been held under the name of ‘Vintage Festivities’ for more than 20 years with the cooperation of Urla Municipality and Chamber of Agriculture. The festivities are held every year in August in Malgaca Bazaar. In the festival, the grapes grown by labouring all year round are collected by the producers and presented to the taste of the participants accompanied by drums and zurnas. The festival starts with folk dances on the giant stage set up in the festival area and continues with the selection of the best grape producer and grape pressing. The winners of the competition organised among the producers are awarded.




18-19-20 August
Barbaros Öyük Festival, which started in 2016 with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Urla Municipality and West Urla Villages Association, is one of the must-see events in Urla.
The three-day festival attracted a lot of attention every year. The railings give the village a very beautiful appearance. The people living in the village have called the railings hollow since old times. That’s why the festival is called the Hollow Festival. The most beautiful scarecrow competition, the most beautiful courtyard and food competitions are held at the Oyuk Festival.




24 August
It is celebrated every year in August with the ‘Nohutalan Melon Festival’ organised by Urla Municipality. In the festival, which is organised with the best melon competition and live music, visitors will have both fun and melon. The waterless melons, famous for their smell, decorate the stands of the producers and every year during the festival, around 1500 melons, that is, close to 5 tonnes, are sold.
